I’m so bummed my dress is no longer available, but this is such an easy look to put together with any cute red dress that has even the slightest vintage nod. I know many women aren’t big into polka dots, because they don’t want to look like a walking theme or too kitschy. I totally understand this as I would rather not look like Minnie Mouse or Lucille Ball every time I wear the pattern either. How to Make Polka Dots Look Modern
- Choose a feminine cut dress that is breezy and has an effortless fit, instead of something more structured or a-line. You’ll notice that my dress has feminine details like ruffle sleeves and a ruffle hem, but the soft and lightweight material gives way to a flowy fit that accentuates curves while remaining simple in structure.
- Look for a “polka-dot” that is less than perfectly round. So, less of an actual polka-dot and more of a little dots pattern. This adds a more whimsy and imperfect feel to your dress, which helps you to never look like you’re wearing something from a costume shop 🙃
- Keep your accessories minimal and up to date. Skip the statement necklaces and pearl earrings and choose to wear simple jewelry in your favorite metal instead. This will always update a classic pattern like polka dots.
