As Spring quickly approaches, I have my mind on the fruit-inspired cocktails the season brings. Although my go-to spirit is tequila, I felt inspired by blackberries I had in my fridge to create a gin cocktail with them. Enter this Blackberry + Mint Gin Cocktail.
Gin has never been my first choice in liquor, as I find it often too overwhelming. I’m also rarely willing to take risks when out for cocktails-I’d rather get experimental at home. However, I do know that when pairing gin with intense flavors like citrus, tart, or in this case mint, it’s easier to create a well-balanced drink. One where you can enjoy the botanical notes of the gin, but not feel like you’re drinking perfume.
I ended up loving this Blackberry + Mint Gin Cocktail. I think it would even make a great brunch drink, because of how light and refreshing it is.
Blackberry + Mint Gin Cocktail
- 1 oz. Gin
- 1 oz. St. Germaine
- 3 oz. 100% Blackberry Juice
- .5 oz. freshly-squeezed lemon juice
- 1 sprig of mint, muddled
- 1 handful of blackberries, muddled
Muddle the mint and blackberries in the bottom of a cocktail. Fill the cocktail shaker halfway with ice (with the muddled mint and blackberries remaining at the bottom). Pour in gin, St. Germaine, blackberry juice and lemon juice. Shake for 15 seconds. Using a cocktail shaker strainer-attachment or just regular strainer, pour mix into cocktail glass and garnish with blackberries and mint.
